What to expect
A space to grow musically. Welcoming music enthusiasts of varying levels, this lovely get-together is a great way to learn through practice. You may sing and/ or play any acoustic instrument—whether you're just beginning to learn or already know a few tunes.
Work on things such as
• getting to know your voice
• exploring harmony
• learning an instrument inside out
• studying the tuning system
• participating in an ensemble
• figuring out a tune of your choice—finding the best keys for your vocal range and/ or instrument, as well as other technical details such as overall structure, meter, groove, phrasing, etc.
• preparing a folk song for a future Flotsam Sessions workshop
• reviewing repertoire so that you may contribute to the monthly Flotsam Sessions jam
We're particularly keen to work with folks who are:
• able to show up with good intentions,
• willing to put in the work to create something beautiful, and
• eager to carry that beauty forward and share it with the world.
Before the workshop
In preparation for the day, please find a song you’d like us to sing/ play together. If you’re unable to print the lyrics, simply email us to have them printed for you.
First-timers
The studio can be a bit difficult to find, on your own. A short meet-up will be held for your convenience at the Crown & Castle, just outside Dalston Junction station. Check in with your host at the pub around 6:30PM and no later than 6:45PM.
